Living with ADHD
This section is for adults and families living with ADHD day to day, whether you have a diagnosis or are still finding out. ADHD can affect work, driving, study and health through life stages such as perimenopause. The rules differ between the four UK nations: the Equality Act 2010 covers England, Scotland and Wales, Northern Ireland has its own disability law, and Access to Work and student finance schemes are run separately.
The guides cover reasonable adjustments and Access to Work, whether you need to tell the DVLA, Disabled Students’ Allowance and support at university, and how perimenopause and menopause can overlap with ADHD. Each one says what applies where and gives dated sources, because schemes, waiting times and the evidence change.
A diagnosis can help you explain your needs to an employer, a university or a doctor, though it is not always required. If you’re wondering whether an assessment is right for you, read about our adult ADHD assessment, or, if you’re a parent, our child and young person ADHD assessment. Start with the guide to ADHD at work, then read the one on driving.
