Treatment and titration
This section is for people who have an ADHD diagnosis and are thinking about, starting or continuing treatment. Treatment is not only medication. NICE guideline NG87 says adults should be offered medication if symptoms still cause significant impairment after environmental changes, and children aged 5 and over only if symptoms still cause persistent significant impairment after environmental modifications have been put in place and reviewed. If you and your clinician decide to try medication, the dose is usually increased gradually and reviewed. That stage is called titration.
The guides here explain what to expect during titration, the health checks involved, how private prescriptions work in the UK, what the annual specialist review is for, and how to move your care if you were diagnosed elsewhere or abroad. They also cover the monitoring NICE recommends, such as blood pressure and pulse, and what each step costs.
For our own services, see ADHD treatment at ADHD Health, our titration service, or repeat prescriptions if you are already stable on treatment. Some people are not suitable for treatment through us and need NHS or specialist care first, which the pages explain. If you were diagnosed some time ago, the guide on transferring care covers your options. Start with the guide on what to expect from titration.
